Salut!… To 25 percent
off wine menu
Dulces Latin
Bistro lures wine lovers, wine-shy in Wednesday
night program
Seattle, Wash. – Guests might be more inclined
to purchase a bottle of the California Cabernet,
Maya, 1998 at a cost of $245.00 instead of its
normally priced $325.00. The wine novice might
also be more inclined to select a more adventurous
bottle when the price is lower. That's why Dulces
Latin Bistro owner Carlos Kainz introduced a Wednesday
night wine program now in its third year, that
knocks the 25 percent off his 1000-label-deep
wine list. And it's working.
"People can't believe the value that they
are getting, especially among those who really
know their wines," Kainz said. "We just
want to celebrate wine with our customers, and
besides offering a far-reaching list, this program
not only gets people trying new wines, it keeps
them coming back, and coming often."
Kainz takes it a step further by serving all wines
in Riedel Austrian Crystal stemware, but occasionally
treating "tight" reds to a burgundy
glass for aeration. All red wines, no matter what
the price, are decanted.
Already proven wine-worthy, Dulces Latin Bistro
has won seven Wine Spectator Awards for
their food and wine combination. On Dulces' wine
list you'll find more than 40 ports by the glass,
a fine selection of Portuguese and Chilean wines,
and a depth of vintages and top-notch producers,
both outstanding in breadth and in culinary harmony
(hence the red-heaviness of the wine menu).
Five nights per week, Dulces also offers its Wine
Flight ($10.00), a sampler of two ounces each
of three different wines, perfect for the wine
novice.
Between the restaurant's main dining room and
wine room, a hallway with about 3,000 caged wines
provide a glimpse of just how serious Dulces is
about its stock. There's several thousand more
bottles where that came from tucked out of sight.
Nestled in Seattle's Madrona neighborhood, Dulces
Latin Bistro is known for its creative, moderately-priced
European fare with a Latin-Mediterranean influence,
such as spicy and savory meat dishes. At Dulces
you'll find Kainz whisking people to their tables, greeting familiar faces and you'll notice
customers exchanging friendly hellos with Chef
Julie Guerrero, who works behind a swathed black
curtain. It's that feel-at-home service that draws
a mosaic of people from the upscale Madrona residents
to newcomers seeking out Dulces' ambience, great
food, wine and incredible wine list.
Dulces is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday, 5:00pm - 9:30pm and Sunday 5:00pm - 9:00pm,
located at 1430 34th Avenue, Seattle. For reservations,
phone (206) 322-5453.
